Fred & George Weasley (Teen)
Series 1
This is Fred | This is George |
Finished : 30.April.2004
Original Identity : Skipper’s Boyfriend Kevin x2 (Mattel)
JKR’s Specs : “Shorter and Stockier” than the tall & lanky Weasley boys, identical down to the last freckle
Choosing a Weasley : There really wasn’t a difficult choice here. Kevin was picked out early. I already owned one, I just watched eBay for another. The biggest downfall to Kevin is the stiff PTR body. In the end I used Kevin not because his face mold jumped out at me, but because of height. They were just the right size. Taller than Ron & Ginny and shorter than a full grown male Ken/12″ action figure (like Bill). Kevin’s not the only teen boy body, but Kevin’s was the easiest to find at the time.
Making a Weasley : {view before Image}
Kevin’s molded blond hair was easy to make red. I just painted it a new color. The biggest challenge with Fred & George was the “identical down to the last” freckle part. I tried to make identical freckles by doing a freckle pattern of five on each cheek (which was much much harder to do than the random freckles I did for older brother Bill). I worked from one head to another trying to keep the freckles and eyebrows similar. I don’t know how well I did. I didn’t touch the eyes, I was afraid too. As I didn’t have a ‘experimental’ extra Kevin, it was safer to leave the eyes alone.
My Thoughts on the Result : Only the bodies totally suck. I felt kind of “trapped” with Fred & George. I mean they turned out alright, but I wish I could have explored more options with them. Unfortunately, they later came out with dolls for High School Musical (and other Disney Shows) that were the right height and had excellent articulation. Ah well, I guess Kevin was destined to be Fred and George.
